ABOUT PASTOR BRIAN K. KING

WHO IS PASTOR KING?

Pastor Brian Keith King Sr. was born in Washington, DC and raised in the God fearing home of the late Professor Theodore King Sr. and Mother Helen JoAn King.

Pastor King graduated from the prestigious Georgetown Day Preparatory High School in Washington, DC. He earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree from the Catholic University of America and a Master’s of Science Degree from McDaniel University.

Professionally, Pastor King has served as a certified, licensed educator for over 20 years. He has taught all grade levels from elementary to high school.  Currently, he serves as an Assistant Principal in the Prince George’s County Public School System.

Pastor King is a son of the Refreshing Spring Church of God In Christ. In 1968, he was born into the ministry under the late Bishop Archie D. Headen and was introduced to the plan of salvation under his spiritual father, Superintendent James E. Jordan Jr.

Ordained an Elder in 2003, under the late Bishop Sherman S. Howard, Pastor King
assumed many leadership roles at his home church. He served on the Trustee Board, Vice Chair of the Men’s Department, Vice President of the Outreach Ministry, Director of Male Chorus, and faithful member of the Praise Team.

In 2011, Pastor King was appointed as the Youth Pastor of Refreshing Spring. He is credited with the institution of many new outreach initiatives which were birthed and designed for youth to see God “outside the four walls of the church building” and understand the importance of serving others. The cornerstone of his tenure focused on the growth of the bi-monthly Youth Church services where teenagers were active participants in the service and had the opportunity to hear the Word of God delivered in a practical and comprehendible manner. He was often quoted as saying to the youth, “You are not the church of tomorrow; you are the church of today!”

Even as he happily served the Lord at “the Spring”, Pastor King could feel God’s urging to move out into the area of pastoral ministry. He began to seek God for His divine approbation and timing. On January 1, 2013, while attending Watch Night service, Eld. King heard the voice of God echo to him the same promise he gave in Joshua 1:5, “As I was with Moses, also shall I be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.”

Thus, the Lord birthed the Greater Bethesda Church in the heart of this man servant. He is joined in life and in ministry, by his wife of sixteen years, Courtney M. King and his two beloved sons Brian Jr. and Cameron Theodore.

Pastor King’s sincere desire is to please God by living according to his favorite scripture Hebrews 12:14 – “Follow peace with all men and holiness, without which, no man shall see the Lord.”

ABOUT FIRST LADY COURTNEY M. KING

WHO IS FIRST LADY KING?

Mrs. Courtney King was born October 16, 1970 to Evangelist Mary Wheeler-Thomas and the late Deacon Robert Wheeler. She was raised in Prince George’s County, MD and completed her elementary through high school formal education in the Prince George’s County Public School System. After graduating from Parkdale High School, Courtney attended Howard University earning a Bachelor Degree in English and Master of Arts Degree in Secondary Teaching. She returned to her beloved high school alma mater in 1997 as an English teacher. During her 13 year tenure at Parkdale, Courtney moved up in the ranks from teacher to Assistant Principal.

Eventually, Courtney knew it was time for her to leave the “nest”-Parkdale- and venture into other professional opportunities. In 2010, she was selected and appointed as a Principal in the Prince George’s County Public School System.

Mrs. King’s family was very active members in the Church of God In Christ. She was raised from infancy at St. Paul Temple COGIC and later, at the age of 7, became a member of Refreshing Spring COGIC. From childhood to adulthood, Mrs. King was actively involved in several ministries in Refreshing Spring. Ultimately, Mrs. King became very instrumental in the church’s Youth, Education, and Music ministries. She was appointed as the director of the James E. Jordan, Jr. Choir in 1997. Under her leadership, the choir sang all over the United States and very prominent venues such as the Verizon Center, Staples Center, Lincoln Memorial, John F. Kennedy Center, and the Strathmore Music Concert Hall. In addition, the choir won several awards and recognitions including the 2011 How Sweet the Sound North-Eastern Regional Winners.

Not only did Mrs. King find Christ while serving in Refreshing Spring Church, but she was found by Elder Brian K. King in 1998. After a one year courtship, the two were married July 31, 1999. From their union, Brian K. King, Jr. and Cameron T. King were born.

On November 15, 2015, Mrs. King joined with her husband in establishing the Greater Bethesda Church of God In Christ in Upper Marlboro, MD. She is godly proud of her husband’s unwavering faith in being obedient to the voice of the Lord. Presently, during the infancy stages of Greater Bethesda, Mrs. King works in several capacities in ministry. However, she believes her greatest role is to be Pastor King’s biggest cheerleader and supporter.

Mrs. King is saved, sanctified, and filled with the Holy Ghost. She lives daily by Matthew 6:33, “But seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteous, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
